UK vs NY

UK drill

  • Calm and close to talking, a little behind the beat
  • Words come in short bursts, then stop so the bass can fill the gap
  • Ad-libs are few and quiet

NY drill

  • Louder and bouncier
  • Words often come in quick groups of three
  • Hooks repeat a chant, and ad-libs are loud and frequent

How it works

  1. Type a topic and pick UK or NY

Keep it short: “late shifts”, “staying loyal”, “from the block to the booth”. UK or NY sets the slang and the setting.

  2. Pick Steady or Hard

Steady gives you clean lines. Hard adds an ad-lib, a short shout like (Yeah), at the end of every other line, the way drill vocals fill the gaps.

  3. Edit, then put it on a beat

Change any word, or regenerate one part and keep the rest. Then press “Turn into a song” and pick a style and a beat. You get two versions, usually in 45 to 60 seconds.

What you get

Each run writes a full set of drill bars, in the order you'd perform them.

  • Verse 1 and Verse 2, 8 lines each. The lines are written to rhyme in pairs, which suits drill's stop-start style.
  • A 4-bar hook between them, built around your topic so it's easy to chant.
  • Slang that fits the style. UK lyrics talk about the ends, the mandem and life on road. NY lyrics talk about the block, the cold and the corner store.
  • Ad-libs on Hard. Every second line ends with a shout like (Ay) or (Woah). They're plain text, so you can move or delete them.
  • No threats, no violence. The lyrics stick to pressure, ambition, loyalty and the grind.

Examples

Three short excerpts covering both styles and both energy levels. Your results will be different.

Topic: early mornings on the grind · Style: UK drill, Steady
Five a.m. and the flat still cold Kettle on, hood up, I don't need to be told Not by a boss, by the voice in my head Saying the ends won't change if I stay in bed Night bus home, then the early one back Mandem still sleeping, but I can't relax Every pound saved is a brick in the build Ends gave me nothing, so I'm learning a skill
Topic: staying loyal to the block · Style: NY drill, Hard
Same stoop, same street, same light on the corner Wind off the river and the nights getting colder (Woah) Mom on the fourth floor calling out my name Ten years later and the block still the same (Uh) Swore to my day ones I would never switch sides Split every fare on the late-night rides (Yeah) Now I'm moving up, but I'm still coming back Every win I take, the block get half of that (Let's go)
Topic: pressure · Style: UK drill, Hard (hook)
Pressure, pressure, still won't fold Rain on the ends and the nights go cold (Ay) Pressure, pressure, that's how I grow Head down, work, let the beat go (Mm)

Tips for writing UK and NY drill lyrics

UK and NY drill use similar beats: fast, dark and heavy on the bass. The difference is mostly in how you rap over them.

UK drill

Calm and close to talking, a little behind the beat. Words come in short bursts, then stop so the bass can fill the gap. Ad-libs are few and quiet.

NY drill

Louder and bouncier. Words often come in quick groups of three, hooks repeat a chant, and ad-libs are loud and frequent.

  • Fit each line into four beats. Tap along to the beat, count to four, and make each line fill one count of four.
  • Leave room for ad-libs. Cut a word from every second line so the (Yeah) falls in a gap, not on top of your rhyme.
  • End lines on hard sounds. Words ending in t, k, d or p stop clean. “I put in the work” hits harder than “I keep on working”.
  • Don't mix UK and NY slang. “Mandem” and “bodega” in the same verse sound like two different people. Pick one side, and never pile three slang words into one line.
  • Make the hook simpler than the verses. Fewer words, one repeated phrase and longer notes help the hook stand out.

FAQ

Is the drill lyrics generator free?

Yes. Write as many drill bars as you like, with no sign-up. Making a song costs credits (10 per song, two versions included), and your first song is free once you make a free account.

What's the difference between UK and NY?

The slang and the setting. UK lyrics use words like ends, mandem and road. NY lyrics talk about the block, the train home and the corner store.

What does Hard add?

An ad-lib in parentheses, like (Yeah) or (Woah), at the end of every other line. Steady has none.

Will it write violent drill lyrics?

No. It doesn't write threats, violence, weapons or drugs. The lyrics stick to pressure, ambition, loyalty and the grind.

Can I make a drill track from my bars?

Yes, with a free account. Press “Turn into a song” and pick a style and a beat. The song uses whatever is in your text boxes. It usually takes 45 to 60 seconds, a little longer at busy times, and shows up on its own. If it fails, your credits come back.

What should I type as the topic?

A short phrase you can picture, like “late shifts and early trains”. The hook is built around it, so pick words that still sound good the second time.
